Water utilities that serve at least 400,000 customers should be aware that the annual customer satisfaction survey from JD Power has been completed, according to a JD Power press release . (Note: AWWA is not a partner in this survey. We are sending this advisory to allow member utilities to prepare for potential media and/or customer inquiries related to the report.) The survey, which gathered residential customer perceptions of water service, ranks 89 utilities by region based on customer satisfaction. According to the firm, “Overall satisfaction is measured by examining 33 attributes in six factors (listed in order of importance): delivery; price; conservation; billing and payment; communications; and customer service.” According to JD Power, the four key takeaways from its survey are: • Reports of water quality problems are declining; • Water quality and service interruptions still present serious challenge; • Customer awareness of infrastructure investment drives goodwill; • Proactive communications have powerful effect, but few utilities deliver.
