The 2019 edition of the AWWA Water Matters! Fly-In will be March 27-28, with the Marriott Metro Center in downtown Washington, D.C., serving as headquarters. AWWA’s Government Affairs Office will send a notice out to Section leaders this fall when registration opens. Section leaders coordinate and name Fly-In delegates. We pay travel expenses for one delegate for every 10 members of the U.S. House of Representatives that a state has, with every state getting at least one reimbursed delegate. Sections are free to send additional delegates at their own, their employer’s or the Section’s expense.
In 2018, a record 160 water utility leaders from 48 states converged on Capitol Hill Wednesday to advocate for water infrastructure investment and source water protection during the Fly-In.
Hosted by AWWA’s Water Utility Council, the Fly-In is the focal point for the association’s grassroots lobbying efforts. It serves to not only advance the water community’s legislative goals, but it also further establishes AWWA members and staff as sources of information on water issues in Washington.
